Saint George Island, Florida, is a barrier island located on the coast near Tallahassee that has amazing beaches on both the Gulf of Mexico side and the Apalachicola Bay side. Charla and Chase decided to celebrate the first weekend in Florida by camping near the beach, and Saint George is a lovely place to do it.
There was a great afternoon of playing on the beach: swimming, throwing the frisbee, exploring the beach, and reading in the sunshine. The normally clear and still water was rougher than normal in advance of Hurricane Isaac, but the storm surge wasn't scheduled to reach Saint George until Wednesday morning. With the sun lowering to the horizon, it was time to leave the beach for the state park at set up camp. Unfortunately, the gentlemen at the gate had to relay that the island was under an evacuation order and there would be no camping that night.
The beach trip ended by walking across the island to watch the sun set over the Apalachicola Bay, and Charla and Chase were one of the last to cross the 4-mile causeway back to the mainland in the dark.
