Kayaking the Wakulla River
Saturday, August 25th
After 23-days of driving from Alaska to Florida, we were eager for some physical activity outside of the car. Luckily we had the perfect opportunity. The Wakulla River flows from the Wakulla Spring, one of the deepest and largest freshwater springs in the world. There is a 4-mile one way paddle from a put-in along US98 up to the fenceline at the border of the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park. The strenuous trip upriver is definitely worth the reward of the 4-mile trip downriver back to the put-in.
Charla spends many Florida weekends kayaking around Tallahassee, but it was only Chase's third time in a kayak. There was a bit of a learning curve, and Chase may have spun in circles a few times, but the trip was a lot of fun for everyone. Charla and Chase also met up with their friend Logan; they all met in Talkeetna, Alaska, but coincidentally Logan lives just south of Tallahassee in the town of Sopchoppy. The three of them had a great day on the river, checking out turtles and avoiding alligators.
A great welcome to Florida!
